And now for the details… AGENTS: EDITORS: Schedule: Scheduling for available agent and editor appointments is completed on a first registered, first served basis and after careful consideration of a variety of factors, including agent and editor schedules, breaks, etc. Special Note: All registered Heart of the Rockies & Award of Excellence Contest finalists will have guaranteed first choice appointments. We attempt to accommodate all registered conference attendees to the best of our ability. We also attempt to ensure that everyone gets at least one appointment. It is why we all attend the conference. We cannot, however, guarantee that everyone will get his or her first choice. Save yourself time and do your research before you fill out your requests for specific agents and editors on the registration forms. Elsewhere on this site, you’ll find information about what the editors are interested in buying or what the agents represent. If possible, provide more than one choice. If you don’t get all the appointments you’ve asked for, please be aware that there is both an agent workshop and an editor workshop during the conference to find out about query requirements. Also, this year for the first time, we will hold a one-hour Speed Pitching session. How does Speed Pitching work? All the agents and editors will be seated at tables in a room for one hour while everyone who wants to participate lines up outside where they will be handed three tickets. You will then be allowed into the room where you will choose which table you want to go to and give your three-minute pitch to the agent or editor at that table. When the three minutes are up, you’ll give the ticket to the editor or agent and move on to another table and give your pitch all over again. When your three tickets are used up, you leave the room. If there are other agents or editors you want to speak to, you may get back in line outside and get more tickets. You may see as many agents/editors as time allows until the end of the session. The 3-minutes will be strictly enforced with a timer so trim your pitch! We recommend you also have a business card with the title of the novel you’re pitching written on it so you can hand it over. The editor or agent will appreciate your professionalism, and you’ll put your name and novel title in front of them. NOTE: You may NOT meet an agent or editor in the speed pitching session with which you have an appointment. Once the appointment schedule is set, the editors and agents were quite specific those appointments be kept. Use the speed pitching session to meet editors and agents with which you don’t have appointments. You will receive your scheduled appointment on opening day of the conference when you sign in. The schedule won’t be available before that time. Thank you!
